Sammy Hagar Has Issues Singing National Anthem

As yet another example of National Anthem fails, Sammy Hagar is getting a lot of flack for his performance at AT&T Park on Saturday night before the San Francisco Giants game.

Big League Stew has a fan's cell phone video of the performance, while NESN has the Comcast video feed, showing Sammy up close.

Here's a quick review:
  • For some reason, Sammy couldn't stay still.  The constant movement was distracting and made the cameramen have to do a lot of work to keep him in the shot, which they probably weren't ready for.
  • He does fumble through a couple of spots.  The close-up Comcast feed shows him clearly forgetting the beginning of the line "whose broad stripes and bright stars", so he hums it out to keep things moving along.  He also skips the "O'er" in the last line "O'er the land of the free".  Joe Satriani was there blaring his guitar so that may have helped to cover it up Hagar's singing issues somewhat.
  • Sammy seemed a little too excited to hit the high note for the line "the land of the free" and lets out a "Wooh!" and a little chuckle before finishing the song, almost as if he wanted to give himself a high-five.  (Given his performance, he may have just been excited that the song was almost over and he could get out of there).

Overall, Sammy Hagar's performance of the "The Star Spangled Banner" certainly could have been better, but not the worst version I've ever seen.  It certainly doesn't come close to the infamous Carl Lewis rendition.
