Video: Angry Elderly Dutch Football Fan Tries To Run Over Ref With Scooter After Game

It seems like everyone is going after soccer referees these days.  As pointed out in the Huffington Post, whether it's linesmen getting slapped in Uruguay or referees getting chased off the field in Argentina, it seems that soccer referees have had a tough month.

However, you know things are really getting bad when elderly fans in scooters are getting into the act, which is probably a sign that this trend is going too far.

It happened after a Dutch second division football match between Almere City and OSS. The home club, OSS, lost the match 4-3, and received six yellow cards in the process.  This was apparently enough to anger
an elderly man who happened to be sitting in a scooter on the side of the field with gray hair, glasses and a beard.  As referee Edwin van der Graaf was walking off the field after the game, the elderly man went after the referee in his scooter and clipped him in the back of the leg.

The referee turned around to confront his attacker and was probably willing to let it go as an unfortunate "accident", but then the elderly man in the scooter accelerated again, catching the referee's leg as he tried to take him down.

The ref was able to shake his leg free from the scooter and fortunately was not injured.  No word yet on who the elderly man was or whether he will be punished for his actions, which he absolutely should.
