Video: Umpire Slips At Yankee Stadium While Making Call at Second Base

At Yankee Stadium yesterday, an attempt to steal second base by Oakland Athletics second baseman Jemile Weeks was made more interesting when the second base umpire slipped on the wet grass when trying to make the call.

It happened in the top of the first inning in yesteday's game.  Oakland A's leadoff hitter Jemile Weeks successfully made it to first base and attempted to steal second when Yankees pitcher Phil Hughes made his first pitch to Oakland's Coco Crisp.

As the second base umpire prepared to make the call, he got down on his right knee, but somehow the umpire slipped lost his balance and fell over to his left.  As he fell, the umpire moved his right arm in such a way that it almost looked like he was calling Weeks out, but after he regained his balance, Weeks was called safe at second base.

Weeks eventually came around to score to give the A's a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.  In the end, it didn't make much of a difference, however, as the Yankees set a record by hitting three grand slams in the game on their way to a 22-9 victory.
