Video: Home Plate Umpire Hit In Jaw With Baseball During Yankees-Tigers ALDS Game 1

Home plate umpire Tony Randazzo was shaken up in the fifth inning of yesterday's ALDS game 1 between the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers.  A sinker ball by Yankees pitcher Ivan Nova bounced in front of home plate and under the arm of catcher Russell Martin, hitting Randazzo on the right side of his jaw like an uppercut.

Watch video of the play here, as Randazzo has no way of knowing that the ball is going to hit him. (Excuse the background noise, but at this time this is the only video of the play that we can get our hands on).

Randazzo was checked out by Yankee trainers and stayed in the game, but had noticable redness on his jaw for some time after the play. According to the Huffington Post, Randazzo was taken to a hospital after the game for precautionary X-rays.
