Video: Joaquin Benoit Forced To Remove Bandage Before Pitching

In the bottom of the seventh inning in last night's ALDS Game 5, Detroit Tigers pitcher Joaquin Benoit came into the game to relieve Max Scherzer to pitch to New York Yankees outfielder Curtis Granderson. Benoit was wearing a large bandage on the left side of his face, but the home plate umpire umpire forced him to remove the bandage before he was allowed to pitch to Granderson.

This appeared to be some gamesmanship by Yankees manager Joe Girardi, as he most likely argued that the bandage might be a distraction to his batters. Benoit gave up a run in the seventh inning, but protected the Tigers lead through the eighth inning before handing the lead to Jose Valverde in the ninth inning on the way to last night's Tigers win.
