Tampa Bay Rays introduce DJ Kitty mascot: Is Raymond being pushed out? (Photo)

DJ Kitty has made frequent appearances on the scoreboard at Tampa Bay Rays games over the last couple of years. Well, now the Rays are bringing DJ Kitty to life as a mascot, and he will make his debut at the Rays Fan Fest this weekend.

What is interesting about this move, however is the fact that the Rays already have a mascot named Raymond, who is kind of a mix between a dog and a walrus.  The official Rays web site still has Raymond listed at the team mascot, so he has not been replaced.  Both Raymond and DJ Kitty will be available for photos with the kids at the weekend Fan Fest.

So, the addition of DJ Kitty to the Rays roster raises a lot of questions: How is Raymond going to react to having to share the spotlight with DJ Kitty? Is there room for two mascots in the Rays organization? Do the Rays really need two mascots?

And that doesn't even factor in whether a "kitty" is the best choice for a team mascot. Aren't the Rays alienating their dog-loving fans by doing this?

Raymond better watch his back, because something tells me that only one of these Rays mascots is sticking around for the long haul. Could Raymond be on the way out? Only time will tell.
