Blue Jays grounds crew enters field too early (Video)

The grounds crew at the Rogers Centre in Toronto got caught in a bit of a mixup during Wednesday's Blue Jays game as they came out onto the field too early and had to turn back around until the inning was over.

It happened in the bottom of the fifth inning against the Boston Red Sox, with two outs and a 1-1 count on Blue Jays outfielder Rajai Davis. Davis hit a sharp grounder down the third base line, and Kevin Youkilis played the ball and threw it to first. However, the home plate umpire called the ball foul as soon as Youkilis touched it.

Chaos ensued because of the late foul call as everyone thought the play was the final out of the inning. Not only did the Red Sox infielder take a few steps toward the dugout before they realized that the putout didn't count, but the outfield wall opened up and Rogers Centre grounds crew started running out onto the field, along with Blue Jays mascot Ace. They sprinted about 15 yards towards the infield before they had to turn around and head back.

The grounds crew was able to get to work after the third out was recorded, which came on the very next pitch as Davis struck out. The Blue Jays beat the Red Sox 3-1.
