Kelly Shoppach makes worst stolen base slide ever (Video)

Boston Red Sox catcher Kelly Stoppach made what may have been the worst stolen base slide in major league baseball history during Friday's home opener against the Tampa Bay Rays.

It happened in the bottom of the sixth inning with Stoppach on first base with two outs. Stoppach made a delayed steal attempt on an 0-2 pitch that was outside to batter Ryan Sweeney. Stoppach began his feet-first slide a little early, and then realizing that he was still about 6 feet from the bag, Stoppach had to get back up and flop head-first into second base.

This was the first MLB stolen base for Stoppach, and after seeing that, it will almost certainly be his last.
