Penalty box door problem delays Devils-Rangers game (Video)

A problem with one of the penalty box doors at Madison Square Garden caused an eight-minute delay during Wednesday night's game 2 of the NHL Eastern Conference finals between the New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers.

It happened in the second period when Devils center Travis Zajac was assessed a two minute interference penalty, but couldn't leave the ice because the penalty box door would not open. MSG staff came down to the ice to fix the door, but meanwhile officials considered having Zajac sit in the Rangers penalty box as a backup plan if the door could not be fixed. That would have been interesting if the Rangers got a quick penalty afterwards, but fortunately the Devils penalty box door was fixed and the game resumed after the unusual delay.

Even Devils coach Peter DeBoer was seen getting a good chuckle out of the broken door.
