Kid tries to take Troy Matteson's golf ball on final hole of John Deere Classic (Video)

After Troy Matteson's tee shot on the 18th hole went into the trees during Sunday's final round of the John Deere Classic golf tournament, a kid thought he could pick up the ball for a souvenir and no one would notice.

Of course, everybody noticed. As nearby fans called him on it, the boy dropped the ball and backed away from it as he realized the seriousness of his offense. The boy probably had no ill intent, but we can bet that he'll never do that again.

Let this be a lesson for the kids (and adults) out there: Never pick up a ball at a golf tournament.

As for Matteson, he was able to drop the ball near the spot where it landed and finish his final round in a tie for the lead to force a playoff with Zach Johnson, but lost on the second playoff hole.

Don't feel too bad for Matteson, though, as he still took home a nice big check for $496,800.
