Joaquin Arias competes with Giants ball girl for foul popup (Video)

San Francisco Giants third baseman Joaquin Arias found himself competing with a Giants ball girl for a foul popup during Monday night's game at AT&T Park.

Joaquin Arias competes with Giants ball girl for foul popup
It happened in the ninth inning as Boston Red Sox batter Stephen Drew hit the popup into foul territory near the Giants bullpen on the third base side. As Arias was chasing it down, the Giants ball girl got up from her stool and also tried to make the catch, apparently forgetting that the play was still live. Fortunately, the Giants ball girl was a step or two behind the spot where the ball came down, which allowed Arias to catch the ball without colliding into her.

On the one hand, it's a good thing that she was alert, but we've seen our share of near disasters with ball girls that can't get out of the way. The Giants ball girl was obviously embarrassed, and she received some consolation from the third base umpire. Something tells us that this is a lesson she'll remember the next time around.
