Jay Bruce pranks MLB Fan Cave finalists (Video)

A group of 2013 MLB Fan Cave finalists were each given a chance to ask one rapid fire question to Cincinnati Reds right fielder Jay Bruce recently during spring training, but they didn't know it was a setup for an elaborate prank.

Bruce sat next to a folding table with his "Silver Slugger trophy", but the trophy was a fake, and the table had faulty legs. It was just a matter of time before one unlucky finalist became the victim.

David Feherty crashes bike into Paul Azinger's bushes (Video)

Golf Channel television host David Feherty had a little accident during a recent taping of his show "Feherty" when he crashed a bicycle into some bushes while riding down Paul Azinger's driveway.

Feherty borrowed a helmet from Azinger, who had just drove off with his motorcycle.  However, as Feherty headed down the driveway, he began complaining about the visibility of the helmet.  That would seem to explain why Feherty veered off the side of the driveway and ended up doing a faceplant in Azinger's bushes, despite the fact that he had no cars to maneuver around and the driveway was pretty wide.

The fun didn't stop there, as the television crew was kind enough to replay the crash for Azinger, who got a real kick out of it.  Not sure if this footage will make the final cut of the upcoming episode, but Feherty could  gain a whole lot of new viewers if he does accidental stunts like this every week.  Super Dave would be proud.

Joey Barton thinks Zlatan Ibrahimovic has a big nose (Video)

In Wednesday night pro soccer action from France, Marseille midfielder Joey Barton cursed out Paris Saint-Germain forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic and mocked him by making a gesture implying that Ibrahimovic has a big nose.

It happened as both players were challenging each other for possession of a goal kick and Barton ended up on the ground. Not very professional on Barton's part.

Ibrahimovic got the last laugh, however, as not only did he shrug it off, but he scored both goals in PSG's 2-0 victory.

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Kyle Quincey was credited with an unassisted goal in the first period of Wednesday night's game on a fluke play after his shot bounced into the air and off the back of Los Angeles Kings goalie Jonathan Bernier's head into the net.

Bernier stopped Quincey's slap shot with his glove, but the puck went into the air and took an unlucky bounce off the back of his mask.

Fortunately for Bernier, the goal wasn't the difference in the game, as the Kings were able to rally from the 1-0 deficit to win the game 2-1.

NBC Sports Network NHL analyst Mike Milbury completely trashed Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin for his lack of effort during Wednesday night's game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

During the second intermission, Milbury said that Oveckin "should be ashamed of himself" for his "awful display of hockey" during the first two periods. Among the lowlights of Ovechkin's play that Milbury pointed out:
  • A blind pass from behind the Flyers net that he sent all the way down to his own net.
  • A "ridiculous embellishment" when trying to draw a penalty
  • Poor effort on a backcheck
  • A line change taken as the Flyers were scoring a goal.

The Flyers won the game 4-1.

Roy Hibbert ejected after brawl between Pacers and Warriors (Video)

Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert was ejected for his role in a brawl with the Golden State Warriors during the fourth quarter of Tuesday night's game at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

The fight started with Warriors forward David Lee pushing Hibbert underneath the Pacers basket. Hibbert pushed back and things got heated quickly. Warriors guard Stephen Curry tried to come in to help, but Hibbert tossed him like a rag doll twice. The pushing and shoving among the players spilled into the corner of the court, with a few players falling into the crowd. Pacers forward David West was particularly heated and ended up pushing a coach. Ironically, David Lee, who started everything, walked away and stayed out of the middle of it.

Fortunately no players were injured, and no major punches were thrown during the brawl. Hibbert was the only player ejected, while West, Curry and Warriors guard Klay Thompson received technical fouls.

In the end, the Pacers won where it counts, on the scoreboard, with a 108-97 victory.

Charlie Coyle hits Matt Stajan in head, suspension possible (Video)

Charlie Coyle illegal hit to head of Matt Stajan Feb 26 2013Minnesota Wild rookie forward Charlie Coyle received a five-minute major for elbowing after hitting Calgary Flames center Matt Stajan in the head during the second period of Tuesday night's game at the Xcel Energy Center.

Stajan was dumping the puck out of the Flames zone when he was checked by Coyle. Interestingly enough, it was Coyle's shoulder that made contact with Stajan's head on the check, not the elbow, but the penalty seemed appropriate in this case. The play will likely be reviewed by the NHL, as Coyle may be in line for a suspension if this is deemed to be an illegal hit to the head.

The Flames were unable to score on the ensuing power play. Stajan stayed in the game, but the Wild defeated the Flames 2-1.

Matt Duchene offside goal
Colorado Avalanche center Matt Duchene received a gift from an NHL linesman with a horrendous blown call that allowed him to score a goal during the second period of Monday's game against the Nashville Predators.

This one wasn't even close, as Duchene was so far past the blue line on the play that he had to slow down, turn around and wait for the puck to catch up to him, yet the linesman did not make the offside call. Duchene realized he had a free shot on goal, so he shot it and scored. The Predators bench rightfully argued that the goal shouldn't count, but to no avail.

Worst of all, the terrible no-call by the officials cost the Predators the game, as the Avalanche won 6-5.

UPDATE: Hockey insider Bob McKenzie had the following comments regarding the incident on his Twitter account:
"FWIW, linesman who missed call is one of NHL's most experienced, accomplished, respected officials. Bad call, yes. Bad official? No way. Linesman obviously was aware Duchene preceded puck over blueline but mistakenly believed NSH, not COL, played puck into zone."

Not sure what Smith was more excited about: the big win, or the fact that it happened to be Valentine's Day. Either way, it certainly was a great moment for the Golden Gophers, and an enjoyable video to watch for the rest of us.

Mikko Koivu steals Alex Burrows' glove (Video)

Minnesota Wild center Mikko Koivu stole the glove of Vancouver Canucks center Alex Burrows as the players were heading toward their respective benches during Tuesday night's game at the Rogers Centre.

Koivu entered the Wild bench with the glove, then tossed it back out onto the ice after Burrows entered the Canucks bench. Burrows was left to try to reach for his glove with his stick, but fortunately teammate Keith Ballard was able to get it for him.

Koivu probably got a good chuckle out of his prank, but the Canucks got the last laugh as they won the game 2-1.

Boston Bruins announcer Jack Edwards went viral overnight when he was caught jumping up and down in the broadcast booth as the Bruins tied the New York Rangers in the final minute of regulation after being down 3-0 in the third period of Tuesday night's game at the TD Garden.

Well, now the folks at Days of Y'Orr have mashed up the video footage of Edwards' jumping with the music video of the classic 90s Kriss Kross hit "Jump", and it is pure genius. Here it is for your listening and viewing pleasure:

Argentine soccer referee hit by rock thrown from stands (Video)

Argentine soccer referee hit in chest with rockReferee Mariano Gonzalez was hit in the chest with a rock thrown from the stands during a second division soccer match from Argentina between Boca Unidos and Gimnasia La Plata that took place Monday.

It happened in the second half after Gonzalez sent off Boca Unidos’ Matias Moises, apparently upsetting someone in the home crowd. Gonzalez stopped in his tracks after being hit and went down to the ground.

Fortunately, Gonzalez was able to get up and able to finish the match, which Gimnasia La Plata won 1-0. We can only hope that the person who threw the rock was apprehended and punished appropriately.

Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook accidentally scored an own goal during the second period of Tuesday night's NHL game at the United Center against the Anaheim Ducks.

It happened in the second period as Seabrook was blocking a pass sent through the goal crease from Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf to his teammate Corey Perry. Unfortunately, Seabrook knocked the puck past goalie Corey Crawford into his own net, looking almost as if he did it on purpose.

The end result was Getzlaf getting credit for scoring a Ducks goal, and the Ducks won the game in a 3-2 shootout.

Nerlens Noel carried off court by teammates after injuring knee vs Florida (Video)

Nerlens Noel knee injury
Kentucky Wildcats freshman forward Nerlens Noel injured his knee and had to be carried off the court by his teammates in the second half of Tuesday night's college basketball game against the Florida Gators.

With just over eight minutes left in the second half, Noel chased down Florida guard Mike Rosario from behind on a fast break and jumped up in the air to block Rosario's layup attempt. However, Noel landed awkwardly as he tried to put on the brakes before his left knee banged into the basket brace. Noel immediately went down to the floor and could be heard screaming in obvious pain as trainers came to attend to him.

Kentucky lost the game to Florida 69-52, but that is a secondary concern after the injury to Noel. No word yet as to the extent of Noel's injury.

UPDATE:  It's official:  Nerlens Noel has a torn ACL and is done for the season.

Chaos reigns at Bakersfield Condors game after live condor goes wild (Video)

On Friday night, the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL brought a real, live condor out to center ice to place on a perch before their game against the Las Vegas Wranglers. Unfortunately, things did not go according to plan, as the condor tried to make a break for it.

Chaos briefly ensued as not only did the condor's handler fall to the ice while trying to grab the wild bird, but the Bakersfield hockey players and coaches scrambled for cover as the condor made its way through their bench.

The condor found its way into the tunnel to the Bakersfield locker room, and we can only presume that he (or she) was caught. Otherwise, Bakersfield residents should be on the lookout for a wild bird on the loose.

SNL parodies CBS time-filling during Super Bowl blackout (Video)

SNL wasted no time "tackling" the Super Bowl XLVII blackout in Saturday night's opening sketch with a parody of how the CBS NFL crew tried to kill time during the blackout.

With Dan Marino and Bill Cowher running out of things to say, and Steve Tasker having no information to give, James Brown (played by Kenan Thompson) resorted to reciting interesting anagrams of player names and repeatedly promoting the CBS comedy 2 Broke Girls.  Shannon Sharpe (played by Jay Pharoah) started getting a little silly by contemplating who the players would eat first if they had to eat each other, even though it had only been 20 minutes since the lights went out.

Brown got so desperate that he had to bring up Marino's private life, and Sharpe confessed to what Ray Lewis really knew about those homicides.

NBA superstar LeBron James made one Miami Heat fan's night when he played a quick game of catch with him during Friday night's game over the Los Angeles Clippers.

LeBron had reason to be relaxed, as the Heat already had a 17 point lead heading into halftime on the way to a 111-89 victory.

Is this the fastest football referee ever? (Video)

A video has recently surfaced from a Michigan high school game between Britton Deerfield and Morenci which appears to show the fastest football referee we have ever seen at any level.

If our research is correct, the game took place on October 19, 2012, and the footage shows Britton Deerfield receiver Tristan Pizana catching a quick slant pass, slipping past a tackle and outrunning the remaining Morenci defenders for an 89-yard touchdown. However, Pizana could not outrun the referee, who was able to stay 5 yards ahead of him all the way to the goal line. Very impressive.

So, who is this mystery referee that runs like lightning?

Charles Barkley freaked out by toy stuffed bunny on Inside the NBA's Chinese New Year celebration
On Thursday night, the Inside the NBA studio crew took some time to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year (February 10th) during Ernie Johnson's "Neat-O Stat of the Night" segment. EJ handed out toy animals to his crew mates to match the animals that represent the years in the Chinese calendar that Shaquille O'Neal, Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley were born.

Some spontaneous ad-lib comedy was expected during the segment, but the most hilarious moment came unexpectedly when Barkley freaked out while examining the toy stuffed rabbit (at the 1:26 mark of the segment). Not sure what Chuck was thinking - maybe he thought it was real? Naturally, Barkley's embarrassing moment was replayed over and over for some major laughs.
