Mets fan hit in face with foul ball

A New York Mets fan was hit in the face with a foul ball that bounced off an empty seat during Tuesday night's game at Citi Field against Philadelphia.

It happened in the bottom of the second as Mets batter Travis d'Arnaud hit a sharp liner foul into the third base stands. Unfortunately, the ball ricocheted off the seat and hit the nearby Mets fan on the left side of his face. The man tried using a cup of soda filled with ice to soothe the welt, but it took only a matter of seconds for his face to turn black and blue. We hope the fan is OK, but that bruise is going to be there for a little while.

The ball narrowly missed a young boy who was sitting just two seats away from the empty seat. The man who ended up with the ball was at least 10 rows in front of the man who was hit.

You can watch the full video of the play here at MLB.com. For some reason they haven't made the video embeddable yet. We'll update this post and pass it along when they do.

UPDATE: After 24 hours, MLB has finally allowed the video of the play to be embedded, so here it is:
