Brandon Belt hits umpire with line drive (Video)

Brandon Belt hits umpire with line drive
San Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt accidentally hit the second base umpire with a line drive during the seventh inning of Friday night's game in Colorado.

It happened with one out and Giants runner Buster Posey on second. Umpire Paul Nauert had very little time to react when Belt's line drive came his way, so as he put his hands up to protect himself, the ball hit him in the wrist. Nauert immediately called for medical attention and left the game.  We hope he's OK.

By rule, with Nauert standing on the edge of the infield grass, the ball became a dead ball as soon as it hit him. Although Belt still earned a single, he missed out on an RBI as Posey was only allowed to advance to third on the play when he most certainly would have scored.  However, Belt had already hit two solo home runs in the game to help the Giants to an 11-8 victory over the Rockies.
