Rory McIlroy's road to repeat as British Open Champion next week has become a lot more difficult after suffering a ruptured ankle ligament while playing soccer with friends on Saturday.
McIlroy revealed the news in an Instagram photo of himself on crutches posted on Monday morning, wearing a boot on his lower left leg.

"Total rupture of left ATFL (ankle ligament) and associated joint capsule damage in a soccer kickabout with friends on Saturday. Continuing to assess extent of injury and treatment plan day by day. Rehab already started..... Working hard to get back as soon as I can."
