Penguins defenseman David Warsofsky injured by referee Tim Peel (Video)

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman David Warsofsky suffered an unfortunate injury during Sunday's game against Carolina as he was accidentally upended by NHL referee Tim Peel.

Peel lost an edge and went sliding into the middle of the ice as Warsofsky was skating backwards on defense. Peel slid right into the legs of the unsuspecting Warsofsky, and Warsofsky went flying backwards, hitting his head hard on the ice.

Warsofsky was helped off the ice and into the locker room by his teammates and did not return to the game. He will be evaluated further to determine the severity of his injury.

As luck would have it, Peel was caught in the middle of another awkward incident last month as he interfered with a Florida Panthers scoring opportunity. This is a disturbing pattern, and you have to wonder how often this has to happen before the NHL steps in and reduces Peel's assignments.
