Dustin Byfuglien ejected after bumping referee (Video)

Dustin Byfuglien bumps referee

Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien was ejected from Tuesday's game in Montreal for bumping a referee while arguing a penalty call.

It happened late in the third period with the Jets holding a 4-3 lead over the Canadiens. At the 17:47 mark, Byfuglien was called for a slashing penalty for bumping an opposing player in front of the Jets net. The penalty gave the Canadiens a power play, which they promptly took advantage of when Alex Galchenyuk scored at the 18:18 mark to tie the game.

After the goal was scored, Byfuglien came out of the penalty box and continued to argue the call, lightly bumping referee Jake Brent as he skated by. Brent wasted no time in tossing Byfuglien. The incident comes at the 1:13 mark of the video.

Although we don't think it was Byfuglien's intent to cause harm to Brent, we can't argue with the ejection. After the Dennis Wideman incident, referees can't afford to give players the benefit of a doubt.

Things worked out in the end for Winnipeg, as the Jets scored in OT to beat the Canadiens 5-4.
