Trevor Story loses pop fly in the sun vs Giants

Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story lost a pop fly in the sun during the first game of Monday's MLB doubleheader against San Francisco.

It happened in the top of the third with one out and a runner on second as the Giants held a 5-0 lead. On the 2-2 pitch, Giants batter Brandon Crawford popped up to the shallow outfield grass on the left side of the infield. Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado ran out of the way so that Story could make a play, but Story suddenly shied away from the ball as the bright sun caused him to lose sight of it. Story was not wearing sunglasses.

The ball fell to the ground and Crawford reached first base easily, with the play scored as an infield single. Story did manage to hold the lead Rockies runner on second base. However, the Giants took full advantage of Story's infield miscue and broke the game wide open with seven runs in the inning. In the end, the Giants completely destroyed the Rockies by the score of 19-2.

We're sure that Story feels bad, but he's not the only MLB player to lose a pop fly in the sun this month. Fortunately, Story has an opportunity to put the game behind him quickly with the second game of a doubleheader following this one.
