The Red Sox had a 10-3 lead over the Orioles when Ortiz came up in the bottom of the eighth to face Gregg.  After Gregg pitched inside three straight times, Ortiz took exception after the third pitch nearly hit him in the midsection, and David took a few steps toward the mound.  The umpires kept the players separated, and both benches slowly cleared, but fortunately things stayed calm.  Ortiz and Gregg were given warnings and things stayed under control...until the next pitch.

Ortiz popped the next pitch into shallow center field.  Gregg said something to Ortiz while the ball was in the air, most likely telling Big Papi to run to the first base.  Instead, Ortiz began to charge the mound before the ball was caught.  They began to wrestle and both benches cleared.  Ortiz and Gregg each were able to get one big swing on the other, but fortunately neither connected before the bench players separated them.

No other major scrums broke out between Baltimore and Boston.  Both Gregg and Ortiz were ejected (obviously).
