Notre Dame drink cups misspell 'Fighting Irish' (Photo)

No, Notre Dame did not change their nickname to the Fig-Thing Irish. That was a merely an embarrassing misspelling of their actual nickname, the Fighting Irish, that appeared on drink cups given out at Notre Dame Stadium during Saturday's football season opener against Temple.

So not only was the misspelling of the word "Fighting" not caught by the spellchecker before the designs were printed on the cups, but obviously no one proofread the cups before they were shipped out to South Bend. Looks like someone has some explaining to do.

Fortunately, Notre Dame performed much better on the field, defeating Temple 28-6.

H/T Dr. Saturday.
