Rene Rivera's slide into second comes up embarrasingly short (Video)

Rene Rivera slide comes up short
A slide into second base by Tampa Bay Rays catcher Rene Rivera came up embarrassingly short of the bag during Tuesday night's game against the L.A. Angels.

It happened in the top of the seventh after Rivera reached first on a single.  Pinch hitter Brandon Guyer hit a chopper to first, allowing Albert Pujols to tag the bag and make the toss to second to complete the double play.  Rivera tried to break up the play with a slide that came WAY too early, ending up on the ground 10 feet short of the bag.

Shortstop Erick Aybar had to wait for Rivera to get up so he could make the tag.  TV broadcasters compared the play to the infamous Willie Mays Hays slide in the movie "Major League".  In the end, Rivera couldn't help but laugh at himself.
