Darnell Nurse slashes Roope Hintz in ankle (Video)

Darnell Nurse slashes Roope Hintz in foot, Oilers vs. Stars, 5/23/2025

Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse slashed Dallas Stars center Roope Hintz in the foot, knocking him out for the remainder of Friday's Game 2 of the NHL Western Conference Finals at the American Airlines Center.

It happened at the 3:46 mark of the third period with the Oilers leading 3-0. Hintz was positioning himself in front of the Stars net with Nurse in front of him. Hintz shoved Nurse in the back with his stick, and Nurse retaliated by chopping Hintz in the left ankle with his stick, taking him down to the ice. Hintz had to be helped off the ice by teammates as he was unable to put any weight on his ankle. Needless to say, he was unable to return to the game.

Nurse was sent to the penalty box for two minutes with a minor slashing penalty. The play was reviewed by officials, but was not upgraded to a major penalty.

Nurse has shown himself to be a bit of a dirty player as of late. Just last month, Nurse received a major penalty and game misconduct for cross-checking an opponent and punching him in the back of the head while he was face down on the ice. Not cool, although his dad probably loves it.

The Stars were kept off the scoreboard as the Oilers won the game 3-0 to tie the series at one game apiece. No word yet as to Hintz's status for Game 3, which will be in Edmonton.
