Walk-off balk in 13th inning decides HS baseball state championship (Video)

Cedar Cliff celebrates, Cedar Cliff vs. North Penn, 6/13/2025

The 2025 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Class 6A high school baseball state championship between the Cedar Cliff Rams and North Penn Knights ended in unbelievable fashion, with Cedar Cliff winning its first-ever state title on a walk-off balk in the 13th inning.

The game was held at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in State College. It goes down as the longest championship game in PIAA history, lasting over six hours and remaining scoreless through 12 innings until a run was scored on the final play in the 13th.

In the bottom of the 13th, Cedar Cliff's Michael Boblick led off with a single and advanced to third base after a failed pick-off attempt by North Penn. After the bases were loaded, North Penn pitcher Caleb Price was preparing to throw his next pitch when he was suddenly called for a balk, allowing Boblick to score and securing the 1-0 victory for Cedar Cliff.

We have seen hidden ball tricks on the final play of a HS baseball playoff game before, but for a game of this magnitude to be decided on an call like this is difficult to believe. Given the game was played on Friday, June 13, this was some terribly bad luck for North Penn.
