New York Yankees outfielder Jose Caballero stole second base before the pitcher started his motion in a weird incident that unfolded during Tuesday night's game against Washington.
It happened in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs and Caballero on first after reaching base with a walk as the Yankees led 5-1. Right-handed Nationals reliever Clayton Beeter on the mound and Yankees batter Trent Grisham was at the plate. With Beeter lined up to throw and no one covering second base, Caballero got the jump and was standing on second before Beeter even began to throw.

Apparently Beeter was so focused on the next pitch that he did not even acknowledge Caballero before or after the steal. YES network broadcasters were quite shocked at how the play unfolded, making the joking comment "That's quite a jump."
Some MLB players steal bases on pure speed and hustle. In this case, Caballero caught the pitcher not paying attention and took advantage of the situation.
Caballero did not come around to score, but the Yankees didn't need it as they beat the Nationals 5-1 for their third straight win. Meanwhile, it was the fourth straight loss for the Nationals.
