Cleveland Guardians center fielder Angel Martinez shattered a camera with a foul ball during Tuesday night's Game 1 of their American League Wild Card playoff series against Detroit.
It happened with Martinez leading off the bottom of the fourth inning with the Tigers holding a 1-0 lead. On the 0-2 pitch from Tigers All-Star starter Tarik Skubal, Martinez hit a foul ball straight back towards a camera positioned behind home plate. Television viewers at home could hear and see the glass of the lens break into pieces. The shards of glass fell onto the field, requiring the home plate umpire to call time and grounds crew members to clean up the mess.

Over the years, we have seen foul balls shatter camera lenses and glass window panes. Fortunately in this case, no one was near the camera, so no one was hurt.
Martinez ended up reaching first base on an infield single and came around to score, tying the game at 1-1. However, the Guardians were unable to score for the rest of the game, and the Tigers came away with the 2-1 win to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
