New York Mets right fielder Juan Soto shockingly misplayed a fly ball, allowing the tying run to score during Tuesday night's MLB game in Chicago against the Cubs.
It happened in the bottom of the first with two outs and Cubs runners on second and third with the Mets holding a 1-0 lead. On the 2-2 pitch, Cubs batter Carlos Santana hit a fly ball to deep right field. Soto appeared to have a bead on it as he ran towards the warning track. However, he seemed to lose track of it as he turned to see where the outfield wall was. As a result, he overran the ball a bit and it dropped for a hit. Soto had to play it off the outfield wall, and Santana made it to second standing up. The Cubs runners scored easily as they took a 2-1 lead.

Soto has had his share of mishaps in the outfield and on the basepaths this year, which wouldn't be such a big deal if he wasn't in the first year of a 15-year, $765 million contract. It also doesn't help that Soto makes this mistake as the Mets are in the final games of the season with a playoff spot on the line. The bottom line is that Mets fans expect a lot more from Soto
The Cubs extended their lead to 6-1, but the Mets tied the game with a 5-run fifth inning rally. The Mets would go on to win the game 9-7, putting them a game ahead of the Reds and D-backs for the final National League Wild Card playoff spot.
