Iowa High School Golf Coach Arrested For Driving Team To Meet While Drunk

Fairfield High School (Iowa) girls golf coach Susie Steinbeck was accused of drunk driving last week.  According to her breathalyzer test, her blood alcohol content was .212, over two and a half times the state's legal limit of .08.

To make matters much worse, she was driving with the team in her vehicle on the way to a meet.  One of the girls, Elizabeth Hamilton, sent a chilling text message to her father as she believed her life was in danger:
Ohh myy goshh susie is going to kill us! She cant stay on the road! So in case this is the last time i talk to you i love you! :)”
Fortunately a driver in another vehicle noticed Steinbeck swerving and managed to get Steinbeck to pull over until police arrived.  That person probably saved some lives and should be considered a hero.

Although no official concerns had been raised regarding Steinbeck's driving before this incident, Hamilton had talked to her father about two earlier incidents during the season where Steinbeck seemed to have issues controlling her vehicle.  School officials will be investigating further.

In addition to the drunk driving charges, Susie Steinbeck is being charged with child endangerment.  It's safe to say that Steinbeck may not be employed by Fairfield High School much longer, and she could be facing some jail time.

The girls in this story are very lucky, as this could have ended up as a horrible tragedy.  This is just another story that sends the message:  please, please, please don't drink and drive.
