Video: Argentina Football Player Julian Velazquez Collides With Goalpost

In an Argentina football match, Independiente defender Julian Velazquez suffered a painful collision with a goalpost when clearing away a shot on goal from the opposing team.

Boca Juniors had just scored a goal to take a 1-0 lead against Independiente, and was about to score another when striker Pablo Mouche received a pass behind the defense and navigated around goalkeeper Fabian Assman (yes, that is his last name, not a Seinfeld reference).

Mouche's shot on goal was cleared away by a hustling Julian Velazquez. However, Velazquez realized too late that his momentum was carrying him into the goalpost, so he had to make a quick decision to determine the least painful way to absorb the collision. In the end, he slid to the ground and took the brunt of the blow in his midsection.

Some comparisons to Phil Babb's infamous "nutcracker" are being made to this play.  However, Velazquez was able to protect that region of his body by with his late slide, avoiding what would likely have been even more serious pain.
