Nuggets' Danilo Gallinari Misses Layup In Last Few Seconds Against Lakers That Would Have Tied Game (Video)
Denver Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari had a chance to tie Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers with under 10 seconds left in the game. The Lakers had a two-point lead, 91-89, and Nuggets guard Andre Miller rebounded a missed shot by Kobe Bryant. Miller passed the ball ahead to forward Danilo Gallinari, who was in perfect position ahead of everyone on the court to receive the pass. It looked as though Gallinari was about to tie the game with an uncontested layup. Then, the unthinkable happened.
In Friday night's LA Clippers home game against the Chicago Bulls, Clippers point guard Mo Williams got the start in place of Chauncey Billups, who sat out the game with a sore right groin. Unfortunately, Staples Center PA announcer David Courtney introduced Williams to the crowd as "Chauncey Billups".
LeBron James Throws Inbounds Lob To Dwayne Wade For Game Winning Basket Against Timberwolves (Video)
On Thursday night in Minnesota, Miami Heat star LeBron James celebrated his 27th birthday with a 103-101 win over the Timberwolves. LeBron got the assist on the winning basket with an inbounds lob to Dwayne Wade, who circled around Minnesota defenders to receive the perfect alley oop pass for the basket with 4.6 seconds left in the game.
The Western Hockey League's Edmonton Oil Kings created a video holiday card for their fans, during which the players lip synched to the Mariah Carey and Justin Bieber duet version of 'All I Want For Christmas'. Normally this wouldn't be newsworthy so far after the holidays, but it looks like the Oil Kings put a considerable amount of effort into this one and it would be a shame if no one saw it.
Miami Heat star LeBron James turned 27 years old yesterday. Teammates Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh wished LeBron a happy birthday, but also joked about whether LeBron was really as old as he says he is.
Friday's Insight Bowl between Oklahoma and Iowa was delayed with 2:22 remaining in the fourth quarter for an unusual reason: an ESPN skycam fell and crashed onto the field.
Fortunately no one was hurt, but the skycam did come dangerously close to Iowa receiver Marvin McNutt as it fell.

Dallas Mavericks forward Sean Williams couldn't stand still before Thursday night's game in Oklahoma City as the Thunder were being introduced to the home crowd. So, to keep himself entertained, he ran under the basket, jumped up and kissed the rim.
BYU defeated Tulsa 24-21 to win Friday's Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl. The winning touchdown came with 11 seconds left as BYU scored the winning touchdown with a fake spike play. Quarterback Riley Nelson faked the spike, looked left, and then threw right to receiver Cody Hoffman for a 2-yard touchdown pass.
Philadelphia Flyers right winger Jaromir Jagr scored a goal in the second period against his former team, the Pittsburgh Penguins, to help the Flyers to a 4-2 win in Pittsburgh.
After Jagr scored, he was greeted by one of the Penguin fans with a middle finger salute, to which Jagr responded with a more respectful military-style salute.
During Thursday night's "Inside the NBA" postgame coverage on TNT, Shaquille O'Neal decided to demonstrate his jump shot skills. However, Shaq was sabotaged when someone with a Chris Bosh mask pushed a conveniently placed Christmas tree on top of him.
Baylor quarterback (and Heisman Trophy winner) Robert Griffin III may have played his final college football game Thursday night in the Valero Alamo Bowl against Washington.
Griffin only threw for 295 yards and one touchdown. However, Griffin did demonstrate his superior athletic skills on an amazing 24-yard touchdown run in the first quarter where he bounced out of the grasp of three Washington defenders who seemingly had him sacked behind the line of scrimmage.

In NHL action Wednesday night, the Los Angeles Kings defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 2-0. The Kings were in the mood to celebrate, but some players were more excited than others.
One player who was clearly excited was Kings defenseman Drew Doughty, who celebrated with teammate Jarrett Stoll by hugging him from behind and grabbing Stoll in the junk.

In Wednesday night's NBA game in Charlotte, LeBron James was making plays early for the Miami Heat against the hometown Bobcats. However, it was Dwayne Wade who hit the game winning shot to give the Heat the win 96-95.
With 12.2 seconds left, Wade took the inbounds pass from James and went one-on-one against Bobcats guard Gerald Henderson. Wade dribbled left and made the game winning shot with 2.9 seconds left, then found Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton in the stands and gave him the "Superman" move that Newton typically uses when he scores touchdowns.
In the second quarter of Wednesday night's NBA game in Charlotte, Bobcats forward Derrick Brown stole the ball from Miami Heat forward LeBron James and dribbled down the court on a fast break with a clear path to the basket. Or so it would seem.
In the second quarter of last night's NBA game in Miami, Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo received the pass on a breakaway and had no one between him and the basket. It was the perfect set up for a Rondo lay-up. At least, that's how it looked at first.
The Miami Heat won their home opener against the Boston Celtics last night 115-107. LeBron James and Dwayne Wade led the way with 26 and 24 points respectively.
One of the highlights of the game came in the third quarter on a breakaway after a Celtics turnover when Dwayne Wade made a perfect no-look alley-oop pass to LeBron James for a slam dunk.
While the Oregon football team is in California preparing for the Rose Bowl, they took a trip to Disneyland. Running back LaMichael James, who you would think wouldn't be afraid of anything, got a little scared on the Space Mountain roller coaster ride. Fortunately for us, teammate Kenjon Barner was more than happy to post a picture on his Twitter account as proof.

Dallas Mavericks forward Sean Williams left it all on the court last night...literally. Williams scored 12 points in 11 minutes, including 10 fourth-quarter points, then headed back to the bench and threw up on the floor.

New Orleans Saints running back Pierre Thomas scored a 4-yard touchdown in the first quarter on Monday Night Football against the Atlanta Falcons. To celebrate, he put a bow on the football (which he had in his uniform, so he clearly had prepared this beforehand) and gave it to his mom as a belated Christmas gift.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has impressed people all year with his passing ability. However, Rodgers' biggest highlight from yesterday's game against the Chicago Bears was a 12-yard scramble where he somehow squeezed in between Bears linebackers Brian Ulracher and Lance Briggs as they whiffed on the tackle and collided with each other.
One of the NBA referees covering the Magic-Thunder Christmas day game may have overestimated his own basketball skills just a bit. After a Magic basket in the fourth quarter, Thunder forward Nick Collison was waiting under the basket to inbound the ball. The referee tried to pass it behind his back to Collison, but it came nowhere close as it ended up in the first row of the stands.
The Thunder had a 19 point lead at the time on their way to a 97-89 win, so maybe the ref was just bored and tried to shake things up a bit. He should leave the fancy passing to the professionals.

Los Angeles Clippers star Blake Griffin opened up the NBA season on Christmas day with 22 points to help the team to a 105-86 win over the Golden State Warriors. Two of those points came on a breakaway that Griffin finished off with a monster one-handed dunk.

The Atlanta Braves put together their video holiday card this week, where a bunch of their players sang "Jingle Bells". Or at least, some of them tried to sing while others just recited the words.
The Miami Heat defeated the Dallas Mavericks 105-94 during NBA action on Christmas day, but at one point in the third quarter the Heat led the Mavericks by over 30 points. That certainly quieted the crowd in Dallas, except for one fan dressed as Santa Claus who used the opportunity to heckle LeBron James while he was on the foul line.
The New York Knicks beat the Boston Celtics 106-104 on Christmas Day at Madison Square Garden. Celtics forward Kevin Garnett missed a last-second shot that would have tied the game.
Knicks guard Bill Walker challenged Garnett's shot and may have gave Garnett some trash talk after the missed shot ended the game. Garnett did not take too kindly to it and responded by grabbing Walker by the throat.
A fight broke out between Nevada and Southern Miss yesterday at the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl late in the first half.
Southern Miss wide receiver Tracy Lampley caught a 2-yard touchdown in the corner of the end zone over Nevada cornerback Marlon Johnson. Both players fell on the ground after the catch, but Lampley may had said something to Johnson as they were getting up. Johnson shoved Lampley as Lampley's teammates were coming over to congratulate him, which may not have been the smartest thing as Johnson found himself surrounded by five Southern Miss players. Nevada players came over to help out, but fortunately the officials were right on top of things and got between the players before any major punches were thrown. It seemed like it was raining penalty flags for a moment, as at least five or six of them were thrown in the air by various officials.
In the end, Johnson and Southern Miss offensive lineman Joe Duhon received offsetting personal foul penalties, but the touchdown stood and no one was ejected.
Come on, guys. It's Christmas Eve and you're in Hawaii! How angry can you be?
In the end, Southern Miss won the game 24-17.

In the fourth quarter of today's NFL game in Cincinnati, the Bengals had a 23-16 lead against the Arizona Cardinals, but the Cardinals were driving with under two minutes left. The Cardinals were down to their final play, with a 4th and 5 on the Cincinnati 17-yard line.
The Bengals had a broken coverage and Cardinals receiver Early Doucet found himself wide open heading for the end zone, and Cardinals quarterback John Skelton threw the ball in the perfect spot. Unfortunately, the unthinkable happened.
Late in the fourth quarter of today's Giants-Jets game, Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez was sacked in the end zone for a safety to increase the Giants lead to 22-14. With just over two minutes left and the Jets having only one time out remaining, it looked like all hope was lost as the Jets would have to punt the ball away to the Giants.
However, the Jets tried to get possession of the ball one more time by making the unusual move of attempting an onside punt.

During the second period of last night's NHL game in New Jersey, Devils right winger Cam Janssen had New York Rangers defenseman Tim Erixon lined up for a check against the boards in front of the Devils bench.
Janssen skated full speed straight at Erixon and lunged at him, but Erixon moved out of the way at the last minute. Janssen's momentum carried him over the boards into the Devils bench, where he was briefly stuck upside down.

A blown transformer caused the lights to go out at Candlestick Park in San Francisco last night, delaying the opening kickoff of Monday night's NFL game between the 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers by 20 minutes.

Continuing with this month's holiday video theme, we actually have a parody sketch from last week's Saturday Night Live which is one of the funniest sketches of the year.

Last night in NBA preseason action, Los Angeles Clippers star Blake Griffin threw down a monster dunk off a perfect pass bounced off the backboard by guard Chauncey Billups. Unfortunately, the referee ruled that Griffin held on to the rim too long afterwards and gave him a technical foul.

At Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium in Denver this past Sunday, the halftime entertainment for the Broncos game against the New England Patriots was a monkey riding a dog. Seriously.
Last night, the Baltimore Ravens scored a touchdown with 1:55 left in the game against the San Diego Chargers to cut their lead to 34-14. This was a meaningless touchdown, except for the fact that the over/under for the game was 45 points.
NBC broadcaster Al Michaels was well aware of this (as were the people who gambled on the over/under for the Ravens-Chargers game). Michaels made a subtle reference to the gamblers on the air, while avoiding mentioning the over/under, by calling them "friendly degenerates".
In the fourth quarter of yesterday's game between the Cincinnati Bengals and St. Louis Rams, the Rams had a 12-yard run called back for a holding penalty by offensive lineman Harvey Dahl. Dahl express his displeasure by cursing at the referee, saying "That's not f***ing holding!"
Unfortunately, NFL referee Jerome Boger was announcing the holding penalty to the crowd at the time, which meant that Dahl's cursing was heard by the fans in the stands and by those watching at home.

In today's Gildan New Mexico Bowl, Wyoming kicker Daniel Sullivan kicked an extra point just before the half to cut Temple's lead to 21-7.

In what may be a bit of irony, the golfer who is second on the leaderboard at the end of today's round was John Daly, who is better known for his inappropriate behavior on the golf course. Maybe Daly could help out Garcia with his anger management issues.

Denver Broncos punter Britton Colquitt told a story this week about how funny Broncos head coach Rick Fox can be:
"The other day, before the Minnesota game, we were in the tunnel, about to come out," says Broncos punter Britton Colquitt. "And somebody farted. It was bad. And Coach Fox goes, 'Man, I guess somebody's nervous!' It just broke us all up, got us loose. That's what he's like."It's a great story, but it begs the question: Who was it? Who farted in the tunnel before the Minnesota game?
Reading between the lines a little bit, Colquitt seems to be saying "It wasn't me". That narrows it down to one of the other players, or one of the assistant coaches. Of course, there's the possibility that Colquitt is lying and trying to deflect blame from himself.
Too many suspects. We may never know.
