Did Arizona assistant basketball coach Joe Pasternak try to kick Cal's Jorge Gutierrez? (Video)

Things got heated between Arizona and Cal during their Pac-12 college basketball matchup Thursday night, especially after a second half incident that caused Cal guard Jorge Gutierrez to yell at Arizona assistant coach Joe Pasternak after diving for a loose ball.

It happened with 4:46 remaining in the second half of the game. Gutierrez chased after a loose ball and ended up diving into the Arizona bench, where he landed on an empty chair next to Pasternak. However, before Gutierrez could get up, it appeared that Pasternak extended his legs and tried to kick him. Gutierrez stood up and began yelling at Pasternak, and then had to be held back by his Cal teammates and by Arizona head coach Sean Miller. Both Miller and Cal head coach Mike Montgomery had a conversation with Gutierrez at midcourt, where he discussed what Pasternak allegedly did.

Gutierrez has a right to be upset, because based on the video, it did appear that Pasternak (who happens to be a former Cal assistant) tried to kick him. That's certainly no way for an assistant coach to behave. We'll see if there's any punishment for Pasternak, whether from the school or from the Pac-12 conference after they review this play.

Arizona won the game 78-74.
