Diamondbacks fan ejected from Rockies game for throwing back home run ball (Video)

Arizona Diamondbacks fan Joshua Pickett was ejected from Coors Field during Thursday's Colorado Rockies game for throwing a home run ball back onto the field.

Pickett flew in from Arizona to watch the D-backs take on their division rival from the left field stands of Coors Field, and was fortunate enough to snag the home run ball hit by Rockies third baseman Jordan Pachecko in the bottom of the fifth. Since Pickett is not a fan of the Rockies, he decided to throw the ball back onto the field, which is something that's pretty commonplace for major league baseball fans to do.

Afterwards, a Coors Field security guard came over and told Pickett that he had won a prize. However, the prize probably wasn't one that Pickett was expecting to get: an ejection from the park.

Not only does this punishment seem completely unfair, but in fact, there is no mention in the Coors Field ground rules that says that throwing a baseball back onto the field is prohibited.

Naturally, the D-backs broadcast team sided with Pickett, and gave him an interview on his way out of the stadium, offering him tickets to the next Diamondbacks home game, which was a very nice gesture. Pickett didn't seem too upset by the incident and, to his credit, took it all in stride.

As for the Colorado Rockies, they should look into this and see if this security guard didn't overstep his bounds. If there is such a rule prohibiting baseballs from being thrown onto the field, it needs to be clearly listed in the ground rules or posted in the stadium. Otherwise, Coors Field security needs to lighten up and focus their efforts on more important issues.

This wasn't the only strange occurrence during the game, as there was a brief delay of the game in the top of the fifth inning after a swarm of bees began to congregate near the Rockies dugout.
