Umpires at Nationals game not ready after rain delay ends (Video)

Tuesday's Washington Nationals game against the San Diego Padres was set to resume in the top of the first inning after a brief 8-minute rain delay, and everyone was ready to go...except the umpires.

Home plate umpire Brian Gorman was ready to call balls and strikes, but had to call time as Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg was getting ready to deliver the first pitch. Apparently it was only at the moment when first base umpire Tony Randazzo, second base umpire Alan Porter, and third base umpire Larry Vanover ran back out onto the field to take their positions that Gorman realized that they were missing. That's a little scary to think about. Come on, umps, get with the program.

On a side note, we can not confirm the claim by the Nationals broadcast team that the umpire delay was caused because Randazzo, Porter and Vanover were in the middle of eating their leftover dollar hot dogs from the previous night's game.
