Evan Gattis hurts Braves with costly mistakes in NLDS Game 1 (Video)

The decision by the Atlanta Braves to place catcher Evan Gattis in left field seemed to backfire during Wednesday night's Game 1 of the NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers, as Gattis made two mistakes in the second inning that were very costly.

In the top of the second with two outs, Gattis lacked the speed to chase down a fly ball by Dodgers batter Mark Ellis. As a result, Gattis laid out for the ball but missed completely, resulting in an RBI double for Ellis.

In the bottom of the second, Gattis reached first base with a single to right field. However, with one out, Gattis misjudged a short fly ball to right field hit by Braves batter Chris Johnson and ran too far towards second base. As a result, Dodgers RF Yasiel Puig made the catch and easily doubled off Gattis at first, ending the inning prematurely.

The Dodgers won the game 6-1, giving them a 1-0 lead in the NLDS. Fortunately, Game 2 is Friday night, so the Braves, and Gattis, get a chance to put this behind them quickly.
