Travis Snider fails to catch fly ball with his face (Video)

Pittsburgh Pirates right fielder Travis Snider had a bit of a mishap in the outfield when he was hit in the face with a fly ball during Monday night's game in Cincinnati.

In the bottom of the fourth, Reds batter Todd Frazier hit a popup down the line into short right field. Snider made a sliding attempt to catch the ball as he crossed into foul territory, but obviously misjudged the ball as it hit him in the left cheek. Fortunately, Snider was able to continue playing after being checked out by Pirates training staff.

The umpires initially ruled the play a foul ball, but the Reds challenged it. A replay review showed that the ball was in fair territory when it hit Snider's face, even though the lower part of his body was in foul territory. Frazier was awarded a ground rule double and came around to score later in the inning. Talk about adding insult to injury.

Snider made up for his mishap by hitting a home run in the following inning. Unfortunately, the game was suspended after six innings due to rain with the score tied at 7-7.
