It happened in the bottom of the second inning after Giants batter Brandon Hicks doubled to deep right field. Niese was waiting the ball to be tossed back in from the outfield, but gave up and turned towards home for a new ball. Unfortunately, just as Niese turned towards home, the ball got tossed to him, and Niese was hit right in the side.
Fortunately Niese was OK, but that's typical Mets.
