J.R. Smith suspended for punching Glen Rice Jr. in groin (Video)

New York Knicks shooting guard J.R. Smith was suspended for Wednesday night's game against Detroit for striking Glen Rice Jr. in the groin during the previous night's game against the Washington Wizards.

The incident occurred just after the midway point of the fourth quarter as Smith tried to dribble around Rice with his right hand while delivering a backhand punch with his left hand, hitting Rice below the belt. Not only did Rice go down in pain, but he was charged with a blocking foul on the play.

Things worked themselves out in the end, however, as the Wizards won the game and the NBA gave Smith a one-game suspension, which he served immediately without appeal. The Knicks ended up losing to the Pistons 98-95, and the absence of Smith might have made the difference in the game.
