Alex Len channels Pele with illegal attempt to secure rebound

Alex Len kicks basketball to himself, channels Pele

Atlanta Hawks backup center Alex Len kicked the basketball to himself in a failed attempt to secure a rebound during Friday night's 4OT marathon against Chicago.

It happened with less than two minutes remaining in the fourth overtime and the Bulls leading the Hawks 162-159. After Hawks teammate DeAndre' Bembre missed a driving layup, Len was in position for the offensive rebound, but the ball slipped out of his hands. Desperate, Len acted on instinct and used his foot to kick the ball up in the air and over his head, where he could keep it away from the opposing Bulls players and grab it himself.

In theory, it was a great play and he executed it with skill. Unfortunately, Len's play was completely illegal and the official blew the whistle immediately.

In all fairness, Len was likely a bit tired, with it being the fourth overtime of the game and all.

In the end, the Bulls beat the Hawks 168-161. Len played 36 minutes and led all bench players with 24 points and 10 rebounds, but everyone will be talking about that failed rebound that didn't count.
