Antoine Roussel gets misconduct penalty for chirping at and hugging opponent

Antoine Roussel chirps with Ryan Reeves, Canucks vs Golden Knights 8/23/2020

Vancouver Canucks left winger Antoine Roussel was given a surprising misconduct penalty during Sunday's Game 1 of their NHL Western Conference second round playoff series against Vegas.

It happened in the third period with the Golden Knights holding a 4-0 lead. During a play stoppage, Roussel got into a chirping match with Golden Knights right winger Ryan Reeves. Roussel playfully poked Reeves while chirping with him, then gave Reeves a "hug" while continuing to taunt him in his ear.

The referees separated the players, but then shocked everyone by sending Roussel to the penalty box for 10 minutes.

Seriously? The officials called this a misconduct penalty? This is a horrible job. Come on, refs, this is playoff hockey. Let them play.

Reeves got the last laugh over Roussel as the Golden Knights dominated the Canucks for the 5-0 victory.
