Richard Rodriguez throws WILD pitch so far outside it's hilarious

Richard Rodriguez throws pitch WAY outside, Pirates vs Tigers, 8/9/2020

Pittsburgh Pirates reliever Richard Rodriguez threw a pitch so far outside of the strike zone during Sunday's game against Detroit that "wild" doesn't begin to describe it.

It happened in the top of the eighth inning with two outs and a runner on first base as the game was tied at 1-1. The first pitch to Tigers DH Miguel Cabrera was WAY off, as in very high and several feet behind Cabrera. The pitch went into the backstop, allowing the Tigers runner to move ahead to second base.

It looked like Rodriguez's front cleat clipped the mound during his motion towards the plate, throwing off his release point, which resulted in the wild, wild pitch. It left television announcers baffled: "What was that?"

Rodriguez ended up giving up a single to Cabrera, which allowed the winning run to score. Although Rodriguez was able to recover and finish the game without giving up another run, he took the loss as the Pirates lost to the Tigers 2-1.
