Cubs-Pirates game interrupted by stray squirrel

Pirates grounds crew attempts to catch squirrel, 6/20/2022

Monday night's game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and visiting Chicago Cubs was briefly interrupted as the Pirates grounds crew attempted to trap a squirrel that ran onto the field.

It happened in the bottom of the second inning as the squirrel appeared in the outfield grass. After the first Pirates batter was walked, the grounds crew began chasing the squirrel along the warning track with a bucket, a net and a towel. The incident turned into an episode of the classic "Benny Hill Show" as the squirrel ran circles around the hopeless grounds crew, making their feeble attempts to catch him look incredibly silly. The squirrel eventually ran through a fence into the Cubs bullpen. As the game resumed, the Pirates scored three runs in the bottom of the second as they went on to blow out the Cubs 12-1, so it would seem the squirrel brought the Pirates some good luck. Maybe this becomes the latest incarnation of the "Rally Squirrel".
