Rays ballboy allows foul grounder through his legs, disrupting bullpen

Rays ballboy fails to field grounder in front of bullpen, Orioles vs. Rays 7/16/2022
The Tampa Bay Rays bullpen was thrown into chaos when a team ballboy failed to protect them from a ground ball during Saturday's game against Baltimore.

The Rays pitchers in the bullpen appeared very relaxed as the ballboy was in perfect position to field the foul grounder that came towards them. Unfortunately, the ball went under his glove and through his legs, a la Bill Buckner in the 1986 World Series. The bullpen pitchers suddenly found themselves scrambling to avoid the baseball, while the ballboy could not hide his disgust with himself.

The Rays did not appear too happy to have their bullpen disrupted, but hopefully they can give the ballboy a break and offer him some encouragement. He seemed more upset about it than anyone else.

If there is any consolation for the ballboy, the Rays average attendance per game is one of the lowest in baseball, so there were not many fans in the stands to see it happen.

After all, the Rays blew a 3-2 lead in the 8th and lost to the Orioles 6-4 in 11 innings, so it can be argued that the bullpen needs to do a better job themselves.
