Ronald Acuna Jr. nearly burned by pyrotechnics at MLB Home Run Derby

Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. scared of fire display behind stage, MLB Home Run Derby, 7/18/2022
Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. was a bit too close to some pyrotechnics during the introductions prior to Monday night's MLB Home Run Derby.

Acuna was standing near the rear edge of the stage as some of the other contestants were being introduced. Fire began shooting out from behind him as part of the show. Acuna must have caught a glimpse of the fire out of the corner of his eye and realized how close he was to it, because he suddenly ducked and quickly took a step to the side to get away from it.

We are guessing that the organizers of the MLB All-Star festivities could have gave the players some warning about the pyrotechnics, or at least have them stand closer to the middle of the stage. We would hate to have seen something terrible happen here.

As far as Acuna, he hit 19 homers in the first round of the Home Run Derby, but was knocked out by defending champion Pete Alonso, who hit 20 to advance. [LBS]
