Dallas Stars center Colin Blackwell had the misfortune of scoring the game-winning own goal for the Colorado Avalanche during Thursday night's Game 6 of their NHL Western Conference first round playoff series at Ball Arena.
It happened at the 9:04 mark of the third period with the game tied at 4-4. Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon took the puck across the Stars blue line and attempted a centering pass to left winger Artturi Lehkonen. The puck deflected off the stick of forward Oksar Back, the skate of Stars defenseman Thomas Harley and the pads of goaltender Jake Oettinger. It finally settled in front of forward Sam Steel, who was trailing the play. Steel tried to knock the puck towards the boards, but hit Blackwell in the shoulder, and the puck bounced past Blackwell into the net.

Like many hockey own goals, this was a case of pure bad luck for the Stars.
McKinnon was credited with the crazy goal which gave the Avs a 5-4 lead. The Avs went on to score two late empty net goals to win the game 7-4 and tie the series at three games apiece. The deciding Game 7 will be in Dallas on Saturday night, and we know the Stars fans will be singing and cheering for their team.
