Oklahoma City Thunder guard Lu Dort accidentally hit NBA referee Scott Foster in the face during Thursday night's Game 2 of the NBA Western Conference finals against Minnesota, resulting in a bloody nose.
It happened just a minute and a half into the game with the score tied at 2-2. Foster tossed up the jump ball between Dort and Timberwoves power forward Julius Randle. Dort swung at the ball to tip it to a teammate. He missed the ball, but got Foster in the face with his follow through. Randle knocked the ball out of bounds, which stopped play and gave Foster a chance to head to the scorer's table as blood began pouring from his nose.
Medical staff managed to get the bleeding stopped and stuffed a tissue in his nose to absorb the residual bleeding. This comes just a few days after an NHL referee was hit in the face with a high stick. It is rare to see a basketball referee get injured, although in a way it is surprising that it doesn't happen more often.
To his credit, Foster stayed in the game without missing any time. At halftime, the Thunder lead the Timberwolves 58-50.
