Pete Alonso slams glove against dugout wall after throwing error vs. Red Sox (Video)

Pete Alonso tosses ball over head of Kodai Senga, Mets vs. Red Sox, 5/19/2025

New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso slammed his glove against the wall of the dugout after committing a throwing error during Monday night's game in Boston.

It happened in the bottom of the fourth inning with two outs and a runner on first as the Red Sox held a 3-1 lead. Red Sox batter Jarren Duran hit what appeared to be an easy grounder to Alonso at first in what could have ended the inning. All Alonso had to do was toss the ball to pitcher Kodai Senga, who ran over to cover the bag.

Unfortuantely, that turned out to be easier said than done, as Alonso's underhand toss went right over Senga's head, allowing Duran to reach second on the overthrow and runner Carlos Narvaez to advance to third from first.

The Mets managed to get the third out and end the inning without giving up a run, but Alonso was not happy with himself after a throwing error for the second consecutive night. When he came back to the dugout, Alonso threw his glove against the dugout wall twice, then took the cap off his head and slammed it on the bench in front of him.

On the one hand, Mets fans have to love that Alonso cares so much about his performance on the field and at the plate. However, you don't want to see him take things too far to the point he risks hurting himself or someone else.

Alonso seemed to put it behind him as he celebrated a successful toss to Senga for an out in the sixth inning. However, the Mets were unable to muster enough offense to rally as they lost to the Red Sox 3-1, suffering their second straight defeat and putting them percentage points behind the Phillies for the best record in the National League East.
