Arkansas sophomore WR Monte Harrison turns 30 in August

Arkansas sophomore WR Monte Harrison

Now here's something you don't see every day: Arkansas Razorbacks sophomore wide receiver Monte Harrison is turning 30 next month.

Harrison has a fascinating backstory: Williams originally committed to Nebraska as a 2-way athlete (baseball and football) but was drafted in the second round of the 2014 MLB draft. According to his media profile, he played pro baseball for 10 seasons and played 50 games in the major leagues for the Miami Marlins (2020-2021) and Los Angeles Angels (2022).

Williams joined the Razorbacks football team last year as a freshman walk-on. He caught 2 passes for 29 yards in the season opener against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, a game where ESPNU had some technical issues during the broadcast. He became only the second player in NCAA history to record a stat in an FBS (a.k.a. Division I) football game after finishing their MLB career. The first was Chris Weinke, who only made it to the minors before heading to FSU and going on to win a Heisman Trophy and lead the Seminoles to a national championship.

Williams saw action in 11 games for Arkansas last year, including recovering an onside kick and returning it 16 yards to set u a game-winning field goal against UAB.

Although we don't have footage of Williams in a game last season, we have some footage of him making a catch in a recent practice session.

Harrison is projected to be a starter this season, so we will be sure to keep an eye on him. Still crazy to think about a college football player who will be not only 30 years old, but also has two more seasons left after this one.
