In California high school football action, some Grant Union Pacers players were given unsportsmanlike conduct penalties before the game started for excessive taunting aimed at the opposing Folsom Bulldogs.
During the tail end of pre-game warmups, the starting offense for Folsom was running some plays while the rest of the team was lined up on the 45-yard line on their side of the field. At that point, of Grant Union players ran up to the 50 and started trash-talking them, with one particular player running right behind the Folsom players and actually bumped shoulders with one of them.

As a result, the officials called two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties against Grant Union, allowing Folsom to make the opening kickoff from the Grant Union side of the field.
Grant Union were likely trying to pump themselves up given that Folsom was ranked 19th nationally and the game was nationally televised on ESPN. However, these antics by Grant Union were ridiculous and over-the-top, and not only reflect poorly on the players, but also the coaching staff. Nothing good comes from taunting the opposing team, as you not only embarrass yourself, but also hurt your team with the unnecessary penalties.
The aggressive tactics by Grant Union completely backfired, as Folsom blew them out for the 51-13 win.
