In minor league baseball action, Tacoma Rainiers right fielder Victor Robles was ejected from Sunday's Pacific Coast League game in Las Vegas for throwing his bat at a pitcher after being hit by a pitch.
Robles is on rehab assignment with the Triple-A Rainiers after dislocating his shoulder with the Seattle Mariners back in April. Sunday was the final game of a 6-game series in Las Vegas. Robles had already been HBP by Las Vegas Aviators pitchers three times in the series, including twice in the first game of the series. The first pitcher to hit Robles with a pitch was starter Joey Estes, who was also the starter on Sunday.
That brings us to the top of the third inning when Robles came to the plate with one out and runners on first and second as the Aviators held a 2-0 lead. On the first pitch of the at-bat, Estes threw a fast ball high and inside. Robles tried to avoid it, but it hit him in the chest. To add insult to injury, the home plate umpire said that Robles fouled off the pitch.
Robles apparently was fed up of being hit with pitches, but clearly crossed the line when he expressed his anger, as he picked up his bat and threw it at Estes.

As expected, Robles was tossed immediately. He tried charging the mound but was held back by the home plate umpire and one of his teammates. Once he got back to the dugout, he tossed some garbage onto the field, presumably leaving it for someone else to clean up.
It goes without saying that throwing bats at opponents is extremely dangerous, and we would fully expect a lengthy suspension for Robles. You have to be careful with baseball bats, as even a simple bat flip can hurt someone.
The Rainers lost the game 12-7, but still lead the West division of the Pacific Coast League by half a game.
