Georgia Bulldogs freshman defensive back Ellis Robinson IV committed a costly penalty during crunch time in Saturday's SEC football matchup against Alabama by jumping on top of a pile of players.
It happened with 2:24 remaining in regulation as the Crimson Tide held a 24-21 lead with 3rd and 1 on their own 22-yard line. Alabama QB Ty Simpson ran a draw up the middle as a scrum of players on both sides of the ball battled each other. Simpson appeared to reach over the line of scrimmage with the football which was just enough to get the yard for the first down. As forward progress was stopped and the scrum continued, Robinson ran in from 5 yards away and launched himself on top of the pile of players just as the whistle blew to stop play.
Officials called a personal foul on Robinson for unnecessary roughness, which was clearly the right call to make. Robinson's senseless penalty gave Alabama 1st and 10 on the 38-yard line.
"This isn't a practice. What the hell are you thinking?"

"That is just ludicrous. That wasn't late. That was way late."

As Robinson is a freshman, the Georgia coaching staff obviously believe in his talent and ability to have him on the field at such a critical point in the game. After this careless mistake, however, they may want to rethink that. Would not have been surprised to see Kirby Smart shove Robinson to shake some sense into him.
Alabama was able to wind down the clock after that to seal the 24-21 win, knocking off the previously undefeated Bulldogs.
