New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson posterized San Antonio Spurs superstar big man Victor Wembanyamato open the scoring in Friday night's NBA matchup at the Smoothie King Center.
The Pelicans gained possession of the ball off the opening tip. Williamson had the ball at the top of the three-point arc and took it straight down the key. Wemby was supposed to stop Zion, but he was slowed down by Pelicans guards Jordan Poole and Saddiq Bay. Wemby tried to recover but only made it in time to get put on a poster as Zion threw it down for the slam.

Zion made his NBA debut against the Spurs five years ago after being drafted first in the 2019 NBA Draft. After a few seasons of struggling not only to stay healthy but also to stay in playing shape, Zion appears to be in fantastic shape to start this season, and plays like this will certainly energize the Pelicans fan base. We just hope he doesn't blow out his shoe again.
Williamson led the Pelicans with 27 points and nearly had a triple-double with 10 rebounds and 5 assists. However, Wemby got the last laugh as he led the Spurs with 29 points, along with 11 rebounds and 9 blocks, as San Antonio came away with the 120-116 overtime victory.
